On Friday, June 13, the United Way of the Wabash Valley will be holding its annual Day of Action, (formerly Days of Caring) event throughout the Wabash Valley. In previous years, we have been able to mobilize over 350 volunteers from throughout the Valley.
Volunteers from major businesses, banks and other community partnerships will participate in 4-hour projects. These may include painting and landscaping at local agencies, park clean up or spending time with disabled individuals.
The focus of our Day of Action is twofold:
* To offer volunteers service opportunities with local not-for-profit organizations
* To provide our agencies an opportunity for volunteers
Day of Action is a great morale and team-building experience and gets employees involved in our community!

Our agency has been serving the Wabash Valley\'s youth for over forty years! Our service is based on volunteers. We have proven success in creating and nurturing positive relationships that benefit everyone involved. This includes the volunteer, child, family, and the community.
Volunteers come from all social, financial and ethnic backgrounds. They may be college students, married couples, retirees or working professionals. Volunteers are carefully screened and trained to ensure the safety of every child.
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
The vision of Big Brothers Big Sisters is that all children achieve success in life.
Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
Our Programs Start Something!
National research has shown that positive relationships between Littles and their Bigs have a direct and measurable impact on children’s lives. By participating in our programs, Little Brothers and Sisters are:
- More confident in their schoolwork performance
- Able to get along better with their families
- 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
- 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
